Renowned Film Theoretician Noel Burch in Kerala for 6th IDSFFK



The sixth  edition of  International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala organised by Kerala State Chalachithra Academy in the capital city Thiruvananthapuram  (Trivandrum) from 7th-11th June  is once again ready to offer finesse experience and interaction with veteran film personalities . Noel Burch famous film critic, theoretician and film maker in his late 80's, still with a  fire flaming with the passion of cinema is going to be the main attraction of this festival. He is known for his contribution to the history of film criticism. Burch is linked to the beginnings of the magazine 'Cahiers du Cinema' and the 'Nouvelle Vague'. He has also directed many documentaries and experimental films . 'Le noviciat (1965) was awarded at festivals in London and 'The Impersonation' received award for the best experimental film at festivals in Melbourne(1984). Recently in 2010 Noel Burch received Venice Horizons Award in Venice Film Festival for the documentary movie 'The Forgotten Space'.
'The forgotten space' belongs to the essay film genre, portrays pessimism. A package of seven films including ‘The Forgotten Space’ of Noel Burch is the attraction of this year's IDSFFK. His film 'Correction Please or How We Got Into Pictures' illustrates five periods of cinema history whereas neglected legacy of Hollywood is the core of 'Red Hollywood' which is the provocative documentary that never backed away from questioning the facts regarding class, gender and race. 'Sentimental Journey' a feature length film is a ''walk through a memory lane'' for the director where he revisits America and the leftists close to him. 'The Year of a Bodyguard' reveals the fight of the suffragette in order to protect the leader and who fights with the police.
All of Noel's films were successful in making distinctive identity on its own. He has directed for over 18 documentary films and has written over 10 books.
