13 Documentaries to screen in the International Documentary Section of the 6th IDSFFK
The sixth edition of International Documentary
and Short Film Festival of Kerala brings
13 documentary films for the screening in the International Documentary section from
renowned documentary makers who have made documentaries that has a dash of pathos
,despair, sensitivity, melancholy ,dreadful ventures and some revealing directors' own personal
life.
Dorothee Wenner has initiated an ethnographic expedition from
Africa to Europe in her film 'Drama Consult' released in 2012 . The
protagonists are real life businessmen from Lagos. Wenner tries to track the
process of economic intervention as an adventure trip in the era of
globalization through her film. 'Fidai' directed by Damien Ounouri in the
year 2013 echoes the current effervescence of the Arab
World ,the film revolves around an ex
-fighter through his personal journey which tells the story of countless
ex-fighters for Algerian independence. ‘Forest dancing’ which is the
directorial debut of veteran producer Kang Seok Pil and it is an invitation by
the Seongmisan resident-better known as MacGyver-into his life. 'I Am Eleven'
is a globe-spanning portrait of humanity at a crucial age - no longer children,
not quite adults, preparing to inherit a world changing as quickly and
dramatically as they are. This documentary focuses on a series of
eleven-year-olds from 15 countries, each speaking in their own words and
revealing the private obsessions and public concerns that animate their lives.
It is simultaneously an epic survey of the similarities and distinctions
between cultures and an intimate account of these young personalities finding
their way in the world today. In feature length debut by Gentille M. Assih ,
'The Rite , The Mad and I' produced with the support from Göteborg
International Film Festival Fund, she follows the history of her own family.
She looks for the roots of her family secrets in order to reconcile with them
as well as her father. A self analysis film by Gentille that encompasses on her
own family.
'Meme Pas Mal' is a
Tunisian documentary film by Nadia El Fani and Alina Isabel Perez against
Islamists and against her cancer. A film about freedom of expression, about the
artistic, creative and political struggles . A film that illustrates the
timeless adage of Victor Hugo: "those who live are those who
fight".'Out! Loud!' is a documentary that draws parallel lines and
representations of homosexuality, bisexuality, lesbianism, trans-gender and
trans-sexual activity found in important ancient Indian stories and connects it
to the stories of contemporary young LGBT persons in Pune, India. The film
features interviews, rehearsals, and performances. 'The Last Shepherd' is a
journey through the incredible story of Renato Zucchelli, the last travelling
shepherd living in a metropolis, who conquered the city with only his sheep and
the power of fantasy. Director Xun Yu spent more than two years living in the
neighborhood in order to fully understand the social environment for the making
of ' The Vanishing Spring Light'. "Who will be a Gurkha" by Kesang
Tseten is based on a tough recruitment process that many young Nepali goes
through to be selected for British Gurkha Army and be ready to fight in the
worst war-torn regions like Afghanistan. Tseten deliberately shows young
people's charm for the British Gurkha Army and the miserable venture within.
Whereas' Tzvetanka' by Youlian Tabanov portrays the life of a child, born in a
wealthy family who have dreamt passionately of becoming an actress but the
history of her country completely changes her destiny.
